TAUHEED

Tauheed is procure from the Arabic word W-h-d which serves as the medium for the concept of ‘oneness or unity along with the closely related ideas of singularity and uniqueness.     

The proclamation that ‘there is no God but Allah’ is the essence of Islam.   It means that God has no partner (sharik). He exists by Himself. This is a fundamental doctrine encompassing the oneness of God in every sense of the utterance. Nothing can contender Him as a source of power or love. There is no one meritorious of exaltation other than God. He is not an intellectual concept. He is always nearby us, He cares for us and we owe our existence to Him alone.

The categories of Tauheed are unity of Lordship, unity of worship, unity of His names and His attributes. This first category of tawhid is known as tawheed-ur Ruboobeeyah or the unity of Allah's lordship. Through this we envisage that it is Allah who alone fabricated the universe which is why one of his divine names is Al-Khaliq (the Creator). Through this we know that it is Allah alone who hegemony the universe and sanctions things to happen. This is why Allah broach to himself in the Qur’an as AI-Malik (The Owner of the universe). Hence when something happens it only happens with the approbation of Allah.

"Allah there is no god but be. To Him belong the most beautiful names”   (Surah Ta-Ha 20:8)

Second is the tauheed-al-asma-waasifaat .This category of tawhid helps us to comprehend who our Creator is through His Names and Attributes. Through His Names and Attributes we know that Allah is far surpassing our fancy and fetch no similitude to human beings. In fact it is this principle which makes Islam eccentric from all the other religions on the face of this earth.  

"And no calamity strikes except with the permission of Allah"
(Surah At-Taghabun 64:11)

This part of tawheed is known as tawheed-al-eebadah or the unity of Allah's worship. It is this strand of tawheed which it could be said is the most important. It is through this that we learn how to worship our Creator solitary. Allah is not the kind of god who does not respond or hear your calls. He is not the kind of god who exigency some sort of intermediary to take our prayers up to Him.

 "And your lord said : Call on me and I will answer you"
(Surah Ghafir 40:60)
